On-Demand: Controlled Substances Update
EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
Florida has been at the forefront of the drug abuse problem. Florida is now experiencing historic highs of overdoses, according to Project Opioid. Laws and regulations have been implemented; however, improvement is still needed to curve the opioid crisis. Pharmacists are on the frontline for education, prevention and assuring prescriptions are valid.
As a part of the biennial renewal, pharmacists are required to complete a two (2) hour Florida Board of Pharmacy approved course on the Validation of Prescriptions for Controlled Substances. The course must contain the components listed in the below learning objectives. The two-hour program may be applied towards the thirty-hour continuing education requirement for pharmacists.
