EDUCATIONAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT

In October 2022, the Florida Board of Pharmacy finalized its statutes from 2022 legislation which allow pharmacy technicians to administer immunizations under the supervision of a pharmacist. Florida Statutes 465.189 (1) In accordance with guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for each recommended immunization or vaccine, a pharmacist who is certified under subsection (7) or a registered intern or a registered pharmacy technician under the supervision of such pharmacist may administer the following immunizations or vaccines to an adult within the framework of an established protocol under a supervising physician licensed under chapter 458 or chapter 459:

(a) Immunizations or vaccines listed in the Adult Immunization Schedule as of March 31, 2022, by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The board may authorize by rule additional immunizations or vaccines as they are added to the Adult Immunization Schedule.

(b) Immunizations or vaccines recommended by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for international travel as of March 31, 2022. The board may authorize by rule additional immunizations or vaccines as they are recommended by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for international travel.

(c) Immunizations or vaccines licensed for use in the United States, or which have been authorized for emergency use, by the United States Food and Drug Administration as of March 31, 2022. This course will prepare technicians with the education tools to administer vaccinations listed in ACIP.
